“You are good enough”, encourages the Instagram account and hashtag #takebackpostpartum

May 19, 2015

I guess that when one is feeling tired, sore, flabby or stretchmarked as a new mom, it helps to identify with moms who look or feel just like you.

This is why the movement #takebackpostpartum is becoming a platform for thousands of moms to share their own truths about motherhood.

#takebackpostpartum was created by January Harshe, the mom and blogger behind Birth Without Fear. After noticing that the online hashtag #postpartum was dominated by ads for weight loss pills and stretch mark creams – by “Companies, gimmicks, spammers, those that tell us we are not good enough” – January challenged moms to take back the power of the word, and define what postpartum really means.

She writes on her site:

“Getting healthier and fit is awesome! Moms comes in all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels. We are all on our own journey and progressing and working through our crazy, tired, postpartum, motherhood lives the best we can at any given time. This is not about comparing. This is about becoming united.

We do not need to be told we are not good enough.

We do not need chemical laden lotions, potions, or saran wrap. What we need is love, grace, friendship, and support.”
