A few weeks ago LG offered me the chance to take part in an experience (#LGExperience) that I would document with an LG smartphone. It took me about three seconds (okay, maybe just two) to say yes – I have a G2 phone that I reviewed highly, and it was an opportunity to do something fun with my little dude (I’ve written a more personal blog post on my other site, Dear Max if you’d like to read).
LG liked the idea of me having a mom-kid experience, so I invited two mom friends from my son’s nursery school, whose boys get on great with my son. So it was a win for us, and a win for them.
We chose to go to Maropeng in the Cradle of Humankind, and despite the fact that it’s less than an hour from where I live, it was my first time. We stayed at the Maropeng Hotel, and the next day took the kids to Maropeng Visitor Centre which has an exhibition, focusing on the development of humans and our ancestors over the past few million years.
It’s one of the most impressive exhibit places I’ve ever seen in this country, and even though a lot of it was over the heads of our four-year-olds, there was plenty to enthral them (and their moms). It’s a very interactive experience, and you can get a guide to take you through. Our highlight was the underground boat road that goes through a tunnel of real ice, demonstrating the many ice ages the earth has experienced over time.
Since the Sterkfontein Caves were closed that day, we went to the Wonder Caves at the Rhino and Lion Reserve. I didn’t go into the caves because I’m not a fan of tight and closed spaces, but the kids loved it, and now know their stalagmites from their stalagmites.
If you’re in Gauteng or close, I highly recommend a trip to Maropeng or surrounds, even if you’re not staying over.
A beeeg thanks to LG for the opportunity to unwind, learn, relax, spend quality time with my friends and son, get very snap happy, drink chardonnay against a magnificent backdrop, and shop for African curios (is it even a trip to bush-like surrounds without African curios?)
Here are just some of the many many pics snapped:
