Want a massage but shy about your saddlebags? Here’s your solution

September 12, 2012
I like massage like the next person, but I cringe when I have to get into a robe or strip down, and I die a thousand deaths when I feel my cellulite and rolls popping out or being touched.
So when I was invited to experience a Thai massage at Cape Town’s Enmasse, I almost jumped out my wide-hip jeans. The thought of getting an hour of relaxation without my iGadgets and stressors was appealing.
At Enmasse, all treatments (Thai, shiatsu, reflexology, Thai foot and pregnancy) are done while you’re clothed in a white cotton outfit, and no oils are used. There are trained male and female therapists, and after treatments (60, 90 or 120 minutes), you go to the tea room where you can choose from 48 teas.

Massage is supposed to be relaxing and destressing, so it would be cliched to say my Thai massage was that. But more than that, because it was quite “stretchy” I felt much looser afterwards, and some of the knots in my back were worked out. So not only did it feel relaxing, and beneficial to my body too, which is not something I often get from other massages. Plus I walked out with my dignity, and without feeling oily.

Reviewers often say that they’ll be back, and I’m no exception. But I will be – I think this is a pretty good and therapeutic way to spend an hour, and quite affordable too. For more info, check out the Enmasse website or call 021 461 5650. Joburgers, good news is that Enmasse has just opened in Joburg too.
