The FNB Whisky Live festival is on from August 15 to 17 at the Walter Sisulu Hall in Kliptown, and I’m excited to extend my knowledge and taste buds beyond what I know and am currently drinking. I’ve only been to one Whisky Live event, at Sandton, and it was good fun, if not overwhelming with the masses of whisky stands, tastings and opportunities to buy.
Tickets for the event cost R150 each at www.whiskylivefestival.co.za or at The Soweto Hotel or Roots restaurant. They’re also for sale on their Facebook page. Tickets cost R170 each if you buy them at the door. All ticket prices include a complimentary tasting glass, a 2014 SA Whisky Handbook, a 500ml bottle of Valpré Spring Water, 15 tasting vouchers, and a 10% discount off purchases to the value of R500 or more made at the Showroom’s Whisky Shop.
Times for the events are 7pm to 11pm on the Friday and Saturday, and from 4pm to 8pm on the Sunday. For more info, head to the Whisky Live website or follow them on Twitter.
Also good to know: designated driver tickets are also available at R95 per ticket. Part of the ticket proceeds will be donated to The Foundation for Alcohol Related Research (FARR).
