What is your favourite/cutest thing that your child does?

There are so many! With my eight-year-old son, before he goes to sleep every night, we tell each other how much we love each other. For example, I’ll say “Max, I love you”. He’ll say “Mom, I love you more”. Then I’ll say “Max, that’s impossible. You simply couldn’t”. Then he’ll say “No mom, I love you the most”. To which I’ll reply “Max, I thought you were smart, but you’re not. There is NO WAY you could love me more than I love you, Seriously!!!!”. It’s a special dialogue, and we both laugh.

With my 19-month-old toddler, it’s her bringing my things to me when I don’t need them at the moment. For example, she’ll bring me my glasses, cellphone, watch or shoes. She does the same with my husband, and she always knows what belongs to whom.

What is the silliest thing you have ever done as a parent?

Act a bit like a child too – jumping on beds, falling down to make them laugh, pulling faces etc.

What is the best part of being a mom and why?

It’s everything they give me: love and lots of lessons, which fuel me, expand my heart, and teach me, all crucial things even when you’re “grown up”.

What is the most challenging part of being a mom, and why?

It’s probably not being able to always fix their pains. Although they are fortunately seldom sick, it hurts me to see them in pain – I would take it on for them any day.

If you could have one mommy superpower (besides the one you have), what would it be and why?

Being able to help them all their homework

What is the best advice you could give a new mom?

Your baby will pick up on your energy – if you’re calm (or pretend you are), I believe your child will be too. If you’re anxious and fearful, they’ll pick up on this and be needier. I think kids take on what we give them. I have two very chilled children, and I think it’s mostly because I’ve tried not to sweat the small stuff and been relatively chilled myself.

Watch a child fall – sometimes they’ll look at their parents’ reaction, and decide from there whether to start crying or not. I’m not saying that kids don’t cry in pain, but rather that they sometimes feed off and react to what we’re feeling, or how we’re reacting.

If you could give only one piece of advice to your child when they are 18, what would it be?

Don’t lie to me – I’ll know (I was a naughty teenager once). Oh, and don’t drive drunk – please call me and I’ll fetch you, any time.
