It's full steam ahead in my home currently. We are doing more steam cleaning, and less "traditional" cleaning using cloths, mops and vacuums and detergents that add quite a bit to my monthly Pick n Pay bill. The results? Well, aside from saving money and smelling Jik everywhere, things seem as clean as they were PSC (pre steam cleaning), and it's a fun device to use (look out – I'm giving away three Karcher cleaners this month!)
The benefits of steam cleaning are not all hot air (see what I did there?) – you can read about some of the hygiene, bacteria-killing and environmentally friendly advantages here.
Another massive benefit of steam cleaners is that they can be used to clean lots of different areas – from hard floors, bathroom and kitchen fittings to tiles and window panes, depending on the type of steam cleaner you have, and the accessories such as nozzles, attachements and cloths it comes with.
Here are some of the main areas a steam cleaner reaches:
Tiled, stone and plastic floors
For effective cleaning on these surfaces, a microfibre cloth should be attached to the nozzle. It's easy to reach corners and crevices by moving the nozzle diagonally and sideways.
Laminate and parquet flooring
You needn't worry about delicate areas like laminate or non-oiled parquet floors when using a steam cleaner. These surfaces can effectively be cleaned by steam cleaners on the lowest setting. Cover the nozzle with a cloth, and see amazing results, without any streaks or damage.
Bathrooms
Detailed nozzles are the best for chrome or stainless steel fittings, and getting rid of bacteria, dirt and even stubborn calcification.
Kitchens
Stainless steel is best cleaned with a soft cover made from microfibre-velour, and attached to the steam cleaner. For a streak-free result, it's recommended you polish the surfaces with a microfibre cloth after cleaning.
Hobs
Heavily soiled areas should be well vaporised and soaked. To remove the stains quickly and thoroughly, there's an additional brush attachment with a stainless steel scouring pad.
Since the hot steam works like a lubricant layer, there's no risk of scratching the glass surface.
Steam cleaners are great for ironing too
Ironing with a steam pressure iron takes a lot of the "work" out of the task. The steam cleaner ensures a significantly higher steam pressure than is achieved with a normal steam iron, which saves you time and energy.
PS: Only the SC 4 can be bought with or without an iron kit and SC 5 comes with an iron kit. For more details, click here.
