Graphic designer and Durban-based Cleo Fitzgerald is another talented mom who put together an entire party solo, including some impressive art work and creative elements.
Here’s what she writes: “I had a tight budget so I did as much as I could myself. We had the party at the beach, so there was very little need for decorations.
The invitation was a 5 layer invitation, that was held together with a ball chain and clamp, personalised with each child’s name – the last page of the invitation was a “design your own Lego character” which the kids enjoyed so much I had to inset quite a few into the colouring in book I made for the party packs.
The party packs were simple – they had a few sweets and a juice in it. The party favour was a 10 page Lego colouring-in booklet that I made. I printed the pages double sided. Which I then cut, folded, added the yellow cover and stapled. I drew some of the characters myself and I also got the activities (like the maze) from the Lego website.
The chocolates were a big hit. I moulded Lego blocks myself using food grade silicone, which I then used to make the Lego chocolates for the top of the cupcakes. Thank goodness everyone was distracted by the chocolates to not notice my poor icing skills!! LOL
I also created Lego bunting (I don’t have a photo of the finished bunting). I printed out A4-sized pictures of Lego which I then sewed onto bias binding. I hung this up between the umbrellas.
Here is a link to the pdfs I created if anyone wants to use them. Because my budget is always tight, I usually do a pool/beach party so that I don’t have to worry about décor or venue, so there is never very much on decorating.”
